My name is Lisa Partain. I married my wonderful husband, Robert, two years ago. Together, we have a two year old daughter, Cerina, and I have an 18-year old son, Robbie, that we raise together as well. Yes, that is quite an age gap. But, while some people can't understand what would compel me to start over raising children when I was almost home free, I tell them that my children have been one of the biggest privileges and pleasures of my life.

I look at my almost grown son and then my tiny daughter and am quickly reminded just how fast time passes. This time around, I try to take the day-to-day things a little less serious and remember to stop and play more often. That's one advantage my daughter will have over my son at this stage of my life.

So, with my newer perspective on life and the support of my family I've begun an adventure with the Baby Signs® Program. Seventeen years ago there wasn't information on communicating with your hearing child through sign language. Yet, now that the research has been done, I've wondered why we didn't do this with our children earlier.

I taught my daughter, Cerina, to sign. I picked up a book and a DVD and starting reading everything I could because I was fascinated with the concept. I'm one of those self-starter types that enjoy doing things on my own. And hence, Cerina (and her dad) have learned nearly 100 signs so far. It has been the most rewarding and fantastic experience for both my husband and me. Watching our daughter's eyes light up when we say a word she signs to us is priceless.

I love working with people - especially children. During the process of signing with my own daughter, I discovered that I have a passion for teaching. This brought me to research a way to teach others to sign with their babies. That is how I discovered the Baby Signs® Program and decided to become an independent certified instructor.

I have enjoyed a long career in Public Relations for a large corporation. And now I have the opportunity to do something that will truly make a difference in people's lives.
