	What the Baby Signs® Program is all about
Wouldn't it be great to understand what you're baby is trying to tell you?
Let's face it, as parents it's frustrating to interpret our baby's cries and know exactly what your child wants or needs. You can only imagine how your baby must feel, too. The Baby Signs^® Program is designed to teach babies to use simple, easy-to-do gestures for communicating with their parents and caregivers. These gestures, or 'signs', represent an item or concept like 'cat', 'eat' or 'all gone'. Using signs gives babies a way to 'talk' with their parents before they can talk. Babies can communicate about the world around them long before they have mastered their verbal speaking skills! And it is easy for parents to use and learn too. Signing words takes the same amount of time as speaking them.

	If you think about it, it makes perfect sense. As a natural part of a baby's development, they learn to wave bye-bye, shake their head to mean 'no' and clap their hands. The Baby Signs^® Program can help your baby use many other gestures to communicate just as easily as these more common signs. The Baby Signs^® Program is based on groundbreaking research which began an international movement to teach hearing babies to use signs. In 1982, Drs. Linda Acredolo and Susan Goodwyn discovered that babies between the ages of 10 and 24 months were spontaneously using simple gestures to represent words they weren't yet able to say. After two decades of research and careful study, the Baby Signs^® Researchers proved that using signs actually enhances language, cognitive and social-emotional development. This research was published in the national best selling book titled, Baby Signs: How to Talk to Your Baby Before Your Baby Can Talk. And hence, the birth of the Baby Signs^® Program - a way to teach parents how to use this easy form of communication to provide their child with numerous intellectual and emotional benefits.
